Update from 8.13.26 Landscaping Committee Meeting

Dear Bluhawk Homeowners,

The Bluhawk Landscape Committee held its first meeting on Thursday, August 13, and we wanted to share an update on what we discussed and where we go from here.

Thank you to the homeowners who joined us and shared their time, ideas, and perspectives. Our goal is to take a thoughtful, long-term approach to Bluhawk’s common areas—addressing current needs while also looking for opportunities to enhance the beauty and overall character of our neighborhood.

167th Street/Hardy Targeted Subcommittee

A significant portion of our first meeting focused on the 167th Street area and Hardy Street entrance, particularly following the construction and changes that have occurred there.

Because of the scope and importance of this area, we formed a targeted subcommittee focused specifically on the 167th Street/Hardy entrance. The subcommittee includes Gavaskar “G” Ramanathan, Art Winkler, and Rick Pretz.

G and Art have already invested considerable time and attention in this area throughout the construction process, with a focus on keeping our entrance safe, functional, well-maintained, and attractive. Rick will join them as the work moves into this next phase.

The subcommittee will work closely with the HOA Board throughout the process. The first step will be to understand what has already been completed, what work or commitments remain, and who is responsible for completing them. From there, the group will look at the entrance as a whole and explore opportunities to create a beautiful, welcoming entry into Bluhawk through thoughtful landscape design.

As part of that work, the subcommittee will:

• Review unfinished work and prior commitments, including remaining irrigation work, sod, and other items that still need to be completed along 167th Street.

• Identify trees and landscaping that need attention, including dead or declining trees, remaining stumps, and trees that need to be replaced following the 167th Street road expansion.

• Identify opportunities for additional trees and landscaping, including areas where new trees and plantings could add beauty, privacy, and screening from 167th Street.

• Develop a landscape design for the entrance, using a mix of trees, perennials, annuals, and other plants to create a beautiful and welcoming entrance to Bluhawk.

The goal is not simply to replace what has been lost. We have an opportunity to look at the entrance as a whole and create a landscape that adds beauty and character to Bluhawk, provides screening and privacy, and can be maintained for years to come.

As a next step, we will coordinate a meeting with the subcommittee, additional HOA Board members, Sentry Management, and contractors who have been involved with the 167th Street work. This will give the group the background and information needed to begin its work, while keeping the Board involved as ideas and recommendations develop.

Looking Ahead: Ideas & Opportunities

Several other ideas came out of our first meeting. These are areas homeowners expressed interest in exploring, and we’d like to continue the conversation.

One of the goals of the Landscape Committee is to give homeowners a way to help turn good ideas into thoughtful recommendations. If one of these areas interests you, we’d love to have you involved.

• Clubhouse Parking Lot Landscaping
  Address dead and declining landscaping along the clubhouse parking lot and explore ways to improve the look and health of this area.

• Neighborhood Islands
  Explore ways to refresh the landscaping in our neighborhood islands, including plant selection, color, overall appearance, and ongoing care.

• Hemlock Street Entrance
  Explore repairs to the damaged entrance column across from Primrose and landscaping around the column to create a more attractive and welcoming entrance.

• Green Space & Walking Path
  Explore adding one or two benches along the walking path, including possible locations, styles, and costs.

Join Us

Our next Landscape Committee meeting will be Thursday, October 8 at 6:00 PM. The committee plans to meet every other month on the second Thursday, with project work and smaller-group discussions taking place between meetings as needed.

Homeowners are welcome and encouraged to participate. If there is an area of the neighborhood you care about, an idea you’d like to explore, or simply an interest in helping shape our shared spaces, we’d love to have you join us.

We’ll continue to share updates with the neighborhood as projects and ideas move forward.
